ABOUT SUNBOUND Sunbound is Senior Living's Revenue Operating System. We build AI-powered technology for assisted living and skilled nursing operators, giving them one connected platform to run their entire revenue operation. Admissions, private payments, Medicare and Medicaid claims, working capital. Everything between a resident moving in and the cash hitting the bank. Revenue on autopilot. Senior living operators got into this business to care for people. But fragmented systems, manual follow-up, and endless admin work pull them in the wrong direction. We fix that. Sunbound replaces manual revenue work with intelligent automation so operators get back to what matters: care. The results: * $1B+ in payments processed annually * Operators across 45 states * 40,000+ family interactions supported every year * 99%+ net collection rates * 95%+ on-time payments * 40+ hours reclaimed per community per month * 96%+ first-pass claims acceptance Trusted by Sinceri, Bickford, Maplewood, Spring Oak, Compass, and Omega. Backed by world-class investors. ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our team at a critical moment in our growth. This is a senior technical leadership role with broad influence over architecture, engineering culture, and how we build, working closely with the CTO and cross-functional leadership to shape the direction of the product and the team. RESPONSIBILITIES * Set the technical direction for core systems, owning architectural decisions that span multiple teams and product areas * Drive alignment on engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the organization * Lead complex, ambiguous projects from problem definition through delivery, often before the path is clear * Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate long-term goals into a coherent technical strategy * Identify leverage points in the stack and org where investment will compound: tooling, infrastructure, process, and culture * Mentor and raise the bar for engineers across the team through code review, design feedback, and direct collaboration * Represent engineering in cross-functional planning, bringing a systems-level perspective to product and operational decisions SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS * 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of technical leadership at scale * Demonstrated ability to own and drive org-wide technical initiatives, not just individual projects * Deep backend expertise with strong familiarity in Node.js, TypeScript, and modern cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred) * Experience in fintech or similarly regulated, complex-domain environments strongly preferred * Comfortable operating at multiple altitudes, able to write production code and influence system design in the same day * Strong written and verbal communication; able to make technical tradeoffs legible to non-technical stakeholders and drive consensus among engineers * BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience * Preferred candidates based in New York or San Francisco * On-site 3 days a week in our office OUR VALUES These aren't words on a wall. They're how we hire, give feedback, and make decisions every day. * Care: The person behind the problem always comes first. * Intellectual Honesty: Hard truths said early. * Own the Outcome: We are all drivers, not passengers. * Bias for Action: Bold moves, urgent execution. * Precision Matters: We get it right because it matters. * Play to Win: We find a way or make one.
