What Talo reads
Talo reads the public job postings on each company's own job board (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and SmartRecruiters today) and re-reads them regularly. It keeps every posting it has seen, with its history: when it opened, when its text changed, and when it closed.
Only public postings are used. Talo has no inside information, does not use LinkedIn data, and does not contact companies or their employees.
How a roadmap is built
- Every posting from the last 12 months, open or closed, is in scope. Older postings stay in the database but are not analysed.
- Each posting is read once by a language model, for what the role works on: products and areas named, the problems it exists to solve, markets, tools, and whether the work is new, growing or being maintained, with a quote from the posting as evidence.
- Postings are grouped into themes, weighted toward recent roles. Each theme lists the roles behind it, so every claim can be traced back to real postings.
- Counts are computed, not generated. The number of roles behind a theme in the last month, 3, 6 and 12 months comes from the postings themselves. Pages default to the last 6 months.
A company needs at least 5 postings in the last year for a roadmap; with fewer, there is too little to read.
What the labels mean
- New bet
- The roles describe something that does not exist yet: a first hire, a new team, a launch.
- Scaling
- An existing product, team or market is being grown or improved.
- Sustaining
- The roles keep existing work running: maintenance, support, backfills.
- Confidence
- How strongly the postings support the theme. High means several clear roles say the same thing; low means a reasonable reading of thin evidence.
- Mostly new this month
- An unusually large share of the theme's roles were posted in the last month, compared with how the company usually hires.
- No roles in 3 months
- The theme had roles earlier in the year but none posted recently.
- Seniority
- Read from the job title. When the title gives no level, it is read from the posting (years of experience, people managed) and marked “from the posting”.
- Pay
- Shown only when the posting states a range. Talo never estimates pay.
Hiring is a signal, not a statement
A roadmap on Talo is an inference from hiring, not a statement by the company. Companies do not review or approve it. Hiring is a strong signal of where effort is going, but not a perfect one:
- A role can be a backfill for someone who left rather than new investment.
- Some postings stay open for a long time to collect candidates, without urgent hiring behind them.
- Sensitive projects are often staffed without public postings, so they will not appear here.
- Hiring shows where a company needs people, not how its revenue or priorities are split.
What Talo cannot know
- Roles filled internally, through referrals or by agencies without a public posting.
- Postings on job boards Talo cannot read yet, or published only on LinkedIn.
- Whether a role was actually filled, paused or cancelled after it closed.
- Anything the model gets wrong. Language models misread postings sometimes; the roles listed under each theme let you check the reading yourself.
Corrections
If a roadmap misreads a company, say so in the company's discussion tab or write to contact@fignix.com. We fix errors in the data and the method; we do not remove accurate readings of public postings on request.
